Deborah E. Burns

Deborah E. Burns, Ph.D., earned her B.S. from Michigan State University, her M.S. degree from Ashland (OH) University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. In September 2018, Deb celebrated 45 years of delightful and diverse experiences within the education community. She began her career working with K–8 students in a Marshall, MI, Title I remedial reading and math and program. She went on to serve as a K–4 classroom teacher, a middle school language arts and gifted education teacher, a regional gifted education specialist, a professor, district curriculum director, and as a consultant for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Deb’s first memory of an interest-based learning experience was with her fifth-grade teacher in Dearborn, MI. Noticing some of her students’ enthusiasm for both plays and U.S. pioneer history, Ms. Ivadelle Moore coaxed, mentored, and made time for their playwriting, costuming, set design, and production efforts! Bravo, Ms. Moore!
