Deborah E. Burns

Deb has 43 years of experience in the field of education. She has worked in Michigan, Ohio, and Connecticut as a remedial reading and math teacher, a classroom teacher, a language arts specialist, a gifted education teacher and program coordinator, and as a university professor and program administrator. For the last 15 years, Deb has served as a central office curriculum coordinator for the Cheshire Public Schools in Connecticut. She also serves as an adjunct professor for New Haven University and works as a member of the ASCD faculty and consultant team. Deb's current projects include the development of K–8 Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards, and National Council of Social Studies C3 curriculum and assessments. She is also busy implementing a mastery learning initiative that incorporates blended and personalized learning. Curriculum compacting is a major aspect of both of these initiatives.
