Benjamin Green

Benjamin Green is a widely published poet who also works as a school janitor. After graduating from college, he decided to start a janitorial service in order to have mornings available for writing.

Several years ago, teachers at one of the schools where he cleans asked him to conduct poetry workshops in their classrooms. One thing led to another, and he developed the “middleground method” of teaching poetry. He says he likes “changing the life,” in a positive way, “of that one kid per class who learns that he or she has something to say and that poetry is a way to say it.”

In addition to teaching in the classroom, Green often gives presentations on his “middleground method” for conferences, workshops and in-services.
