Catharine Hannay

Catharine Hannay is the founder of, an internationally-respected resource on mindfulness and compassion. She is also a regular contributor to the Center for Adolescent Studies blog.

Catharine has a BA in literary studies from Middlebury College, an MS in Communications from Syracuse University and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from American University. She taught for 20 years, including a dozen years at Georgetown University’s Center for Language Education and Development. From 2002–2004 she coordinated an intensive English program at Osaka International University in Japan.

Catharine is the author of Being You: A Girl's Guide to Mindfulness, and is working on a book about self-care for teachers.
