Jean Sunde Peterson, Ph.D.

Jean Sunde Peterson, Ph.D, professor emerita, directed the School Counseling program at Purdue University before her retirement. She was a classroom or gifted education teacher for many years prior to graduate work in counselor education at the University of Iowa. Her extensive small-group work with gifted teens led to her primary research and clinical focus: the social and emotional development of gifted youth. She is a licensed mental health counselor.

She has contributed over 100 books, invited chapters, and refereed articles to the counseling and gifted education fields, received numerous awards in teaching, scholarship, and service at Purdue, and has received eight national awards. Among her eight books are The Essential Guide to Talking with Gifted Teens, Gifted at Risk, and the coedited Models of Counseling Gifted Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults. She served two terms on the NAGC Board of Directors.
