Anitra Walker

Anitra Walker is a native of Louisiana. She graduated with a B.A. in English with a concentration in literature from Louisiana State University and an M.Ed. in secondary education from Southern University, both in Baton Rouge. After obtaining her M.Ed., she pursued an Education Specialist degree from Louisiana State University in gifted education under the tutelage of Dr. Jennifer Jolly. Ms. Walker has taught traditional students for 10 years and gifted students for more than 3 years. She has won various Teacher of the Year awards and was the recipient of the You Made a Difference Award from Nicholls State University. Ms. Walker belongs to various district committees specializing in the advancement of students’ studies within East Baton Rouge Parish. She is a former part-time adjunct English instructor at Southern University, a current district recruiting team member, and an assistant principal of instruction in East Baton Rouge Parish. Ms. Walker loves helping teachers explore new ways of teaching and connecting ideas. Since 2011, Ms. Walker has presented her ideas and her work with gifted students locally and nationally in ACT preparation, writing strategies, student-centered goal facilitation, and the creation of independent study projects. Ms. Walker would like to thank her family, friends, colleagues, and students for their inspiration every day. Also, she would like to thank Dr. Jolly, Dr. Kimberley Chandler, Dr. Jennifer Robins, and William & Mary for a wonderful opportunity. Teaching is truly a gift.
