For mathematically gifted and advanced learners in third grade, the standard curriculum sometimes isn’t challenging enough. These great resources can help teachers provide advanced students with engaging lessons and activities that develop essential problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • 10 Performance-Based Projects for the Math Classroom (Grades 3–5) provides 10 ready-made projects designed to help students achieve higher levels of thinking and develop 21st-century skills. Included for each project is a suggested calendar to allow teacher scheduling, mini-lessons that allow students to build capacity and gain understanding, as well as multiple rubrics to objectively assess student performance. 

  • Challenging Common Core Math Lessons: Activities and Extensions for Gifted and Advanced Learners in Grade 3 covers mathematics content for grade 3, including operations and algebraic thinking, numbers and operations in Base Ten, fractions, measurement and data, and geometry.
