What is the Socratic Method? How can we bring the Socratic Method into the middle school and high school classroom? How does a teacher lead a Socratic discussion and develop the discussion skills of students? Using passages from the works of Plato and Xenophon, Teach Like Socrates answers each of these questions, clearly explaining the most famous and the most misunderstood teaching method in the world.

Unrivaled as a constructive vehicle for critical thinking and problem solving, the Socratic Method can be brought into the classroom every day for the inductive exploration of ideas and scaffolded problem solving as well as for cooperative discussion. Teach Like Socrates includes templates, sample lesson plans, discussion games, and example dialogues from students. With this book, every teacher can master the style that leads students to critical thinking, problem solving, and independent learning.

Great Resource
After reading this book, I have all the materials and information I need to try Socratic dialogues in my classroom. As a teacher, this is exactly what I look for in a text. I am eager to try this approach in my classroom next year!

useful and well written
As a teacher I found this book extremely useful: it is widely informed and scholarly sound, but also clear and a very pleasant read. I especially appreciated rich operational sections, which are brimming with ideas and step-by-step instructions, clearly the work of someone with a wide experience, willing to share it. Brilliant.

Teach Like Socrates
This book is a great tool! I would also say its a must have book for any teacher! For me I loved doing the Socratic Seminars with my students but I thought there was only one way to do them. This book taught me that I actually really have a plethera of choices! I liked this book so much it was so well organized and written well so anybody can understand it and use it. I also liked the fact that it had pages in the back that I could just easily copy and use in the classroom! Things like that are always helpful and a great time saver!

I would highly recommend this book for any teacher or educator who wants to try or is implimenting the Socratic method in his or her classroom.
