Young children are curious about the world around them. Let's Go to the Market!, the third book in the Smart Start series for prereaders, fosters engaging conversations for parents and their children through the use of interactive questioning. Images in this book convey children and parents in a familiar shared experience: going to and exploring the market. Each image's corresponding questions prompt children to think at critical, creative, and mathematical levels about their everyday surroundings and activities. The open-ended questions stimulate curiosity and invigorate conversations between parents and children. Let's Go to the Market! highlights the vast world of a child's imagination and encourages children to think deeply about the objects and situations they're faced with every day.

Preparing the Young Child for Tomorrow's World
While it may seem that technology is becoming the primary "educator" of today's children, it is really only an ever more powerful tool. It cannot, nor should it, replace the role of caring adults. This series of books provides parents, teachers, and caregivers with questions that are designed to engage children in problem solving, thinking creatively, critically and analytically about their shared experiences. These experiences can be revisited and extended as the children continue with their education at home, school, and with whatever new technologies emerge.

Review by: Mary Pearl, Children's Literature - November 1, 2015
Written by experts in early childhood education, this book utilizes large photographs of children and families engaged in typical experiences at the market in order to introduce questions and ideas that can spark conversation . . . Diverse images help all readers connect with others who resemble them, and many conversations can begin based on the familiar subjects of each picture. The “Smart Start” series, of which this book is a part, is written such that each text can stand alone, yet all work in tandem to educate caregivers and build strong literacy skills in children
