A true ADHD handbook
As a clinician and a family member of several people diagnosed with ADHD, I found this book to be informative, practical, child centered, and most importantly... optimistic!

I loved the recommendations for books to read to children so they can understand their own strengths and weaknesses and the practical take away strategies. The fact versus myth section was presented in a digestible and direct format and backed by research. I am very appreciative of the chapter dedicated to treatment options and especially the pages regarding evidence based interventions other than medication since a multifaceted approach is often the most effective. For parents, the step by step approach from evaluation to treatment to monitoring is very detailed and organized. Also, it’s very helpful that the last half of the book details what parents can expect and how to effectively manage ADHD from the developmental years through the teenage years so it has information and strategies relevant to all age groups. Lastly, it provides a guide to all of the different levels of support available within the community but also within the school setting (504 vs. IEP) and an action plan to help set short and long term goals. I will be recommending this book to all of the families I work with from this point forward.
