As a gifted coordinator and past gifted intervention specialist/teacher, I love this book!  This book has a wealth of knowledge and expertise of defining what performance based assessment is, looks like; explains how to implement ten different types; how to teach students to engage; complete with evaluation rubrics; and making it authentic through creating a community of learners.  This book also shares templates to immediately use in creating your own performance based assessments, a mock trial and additional sample lessons. This book would be my “go to” book to get started creating lessons and units involving performance based assessment!  I highly recommend this book to all teachers, administrators, gifted intervention specialists, and gifted coordinators.  I have shared it numerous times throughout this year alone in professional development training opportunities.  I wish I would have had this available to me back when I was in the classroom teaching. Definitely add this book to your professional library!

Performance-Based Assessment for 21st-Century Skills
As a gifted intervention specialist I find this book beneficial to all classroom teachers.  With performance-based assessments being an essential part of teaching with the new standards, this book provides practical advice for novice and experts.  Using this book teachers will be able to create assessments that are challenging for learners of all levels, interesting to students and relevant to the real world.  This book provides specific examples and the templates make it convenient for the reader to create new assessments as well.  A great resource for every teacher!

Finally an exceptionally well written book with real-world examples designed to help teachers evaluate performance-based projects, activities and action-oriented lessons. A must have for all educators focusing on 21st century skills needed to prepare college and career ready students. This book helps take away the fear of "I don't know how to assess real life learning in the classroom." I highly recommend this book for all K-12 classroom teachers and as an essential resource for assessing 21st Century learning skills.

A good book for your professional library
Performance-Based Assessment by Todd Stanley is a concise compendium that will be useful to any classroom teacher.  The book clearly balances the why (theory) with  the how to (practice) of performance based assessment.  Chapter one is a brief and compelling rationale that is a quick and engaging read.  Chapters two through six guide teachers through the process of designing authentic assessments.  Mr. Stanley writes from personal and real time experience.  He incorporates tips, techniques, and pit-falls to avoid.  Replete with examples and practical advice, this book serves as a guidebook for beginners as well as a valuable resource for veteran performance based practitioners.  The templates, resources, and sample lessons are relevant and useful.  This is a selection to add to your professional book shelf.
