Growth Mindset is huge topic among educators, but I haven't seen anything like this explicitly for students. Children will benefit from kid friendly language of brain research and the opportunities for written reflection and practice. Video clips (QR code access) are powerful and perfectly set within the text and reference section. Appreciative of goal setting piece, and I give thumbs up to the section on standards based grading and feedback (Schimmer fan) and “how to talk to adults”. While ideal for middle school, this will work well for 4th graders in gifted and talented programs, however ways to scaffold for 3rd graders as well. I plan to foster more thinking skills development opportunities for high ability, yet underachieving learners with this as beginning of the year group read and lessons. I will be recommending this book to staff and families that wish to support children well by empowering understanding and cultivation of Growth Mindset. Excited for this new resource!

Powerful and clear resource for kids to learn about growth mindset!
This is a wonderful resource for kids...and parents. As an educator and parent, this book is the first resource I have read that really breaks down the topic with young people as the audience. From the first page, the interactive text/illustrations are totally relatable. I read this book with my daughter, and she enjoyed writing in the book and responding to the prompts. It was powerful to see her share thoughts about her own fixed mindsets. The book also talks about the science of how our brain learns. This was very intriguing and kid-friendly. I even find that we both sprinkle “mindset talk” into our discussions now. There are a ton of extra resources throughout like links to YouTube videos via QR codes, which makes reading interactive. As an educator, I found that the book did a great job of talking with kids about “giftedness” and how labels can impact self-perception and mindset. I would highly recommend this read for kids, and it can foster some great parent discussions as well.

I grew as a person in a few ways by reading this book. By doing the activities, I have realized the areas that I have a fixed mindset in, and how to change to a growth mindset. I would recommend this book to any reader 6 and above. This book should be read by elementary schoolers and full-grown adults alike. Everyone can harness the power of a growth mindset, and this book presents the information in an easily comprehensible way.

Nothing You Can’t Do! from Mary Cay Ricci is aimed at middle-schoolers and would be useful in regular education classrooms as well as a motivational curriculum for guidance counselors. As such, teachers should be prepared to provide paper or a notebook for students if they intend to reuse their copies.

From the moment I opened the front cover, the counselor in me kept thinking that my students are going to connect with and love this book; the mom in me wished I’d have had it when my own now-adult children were in their middle years . . . I enthusiastically recommend that you check out this treasure trove.
