Exploring People and Cultures
The author begins by introducing teachers to the definition of ethnographic research followed by a rationale for doing so. In Chapter 1 the basics are presented including keeping a research notebook, data collection and data analysis techniques making it extremely easy for the beginning researcher (students)! Thirty-one lessons follow that are specifically designed to provide students with the tools and techniques used by the practicing professional necessary to conduct ethnographic research. This excellent resource guides you step-by-step through the process with great graphic organizers and rubrics that help all practitioner and students focus on the many facets of ethnographic studies. Today's classrooms are compilations of diverse student ethnic groups and adding this type of study provides a doorway for understanding the differentiated needs of all learners in a meaningful way. The students can see themselves as a common denominator in the learning process-authentic learning!

Authentic Ethnographic Research in the Classroom
I have been teaching through ethnographic research in my Cross-Cultural Communications class for a few years now. I wish I had the Authentic Ethnographic Research in the Classroom guide when I started. This curriculum is well organized and sequenced. It will serve as an excellent resource for the rookie or veteran in the planning of a highly effective interdisciplinary unit that is authentic, creative, and engaging. Foundational skills and knowledge are developed through detailed lesson plans which then lead to students experiencing the perspective-enhancing work of ethnographic study. Students teach their peers of their insights in the culmination of learning through presentation in a demonstration fair. Thoroughly rooted in the scientific method, student projects include hypotheses and the collection and analysis of real world data to develop descriptive and interpretive conclusions in an ethnography that follows the interests of individual students.
