Extracurricular Options
This book examines some potential academic extra-curricular activities for gifted (and high-ability or high-interest) students. A few are well-known, but a wide variety are chronicled here. Mr. Stanley presents five activities each under the categories of ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Leadership, and Creative Thinking. The sections are organized in a consistent manner that makes it easy to find what the activity entails, how to conduct it, and who might benefit best from it. Each activity is highlighted in about two pages, so there is a lot of information in a quick read. This is an excellent introduction to many worthwhile activities and a fine reference tool for anyone looking to increase the extra-curricular academic offerings for students.

Another fine addition from Todd Stanley, this work is aimed at in service educators of gifted students, but could also be used by home schools, administrators and even parents to search out extracurricular activities. The work includes groups that some are nearly one hundred years old to ones that have come about in recent years. Stanley includes not only links to these groups, but explains how to set up the group and how it operates on a small scale.
