Monique Felder, Ph.D.

Monique T. Felder, Ph.D., is the Director of the Division of Accelerated and Enriched Instruction with Montgomery County Public Schools, the largest school district in Maryland. Dr. Felder supervises instructional specialists and coordinates and supports the accelerated and enriched instruction/gifted and talented programs and services, grades K–12, as well as supporting teacher professional development to ensure rigorous instructional programs and services for students. Dr. Felder also serves as an instructor for McDaniel College’s Curriculum and Instruction master’s degree program and coordinates the Institute for Educational Leadership’s flagship leadership program—Education Policy and Fellowship Program in Washington, DC.

Prior to her current position, Dr. Felder was a principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher. Under her leadership as principal, her school received the 2004–2005 Exemplary Reading Program Award from the International Reading Association, was a finalist for the School Change Award sponsored by Fordham University and JP Morgan Foundation, was recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education for increasing student achievement, and received two Governor’s Citations in recognition for its commitment to education. Additionally, Dr. Felder received personal recognition for her work as an instructional leader when she became a finalist for the Washington Post’s Distinguished Leadership Award.

Dr. Felder earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a specialization in early childhood education from York College, a master’s degree in education with a specialization in elementary science and math from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech.
